A 15-year-old boy has died after he “got into difficulty” in a lake in south-east London.

Metropolitan police, the fire service and paramedics were called to Beckenham Place Park in Lewisham, shortly after 3pm on Friday 4 April after reports of a boy going missing.

The police said on Saturday that the search for the boy, who they originally thought to be 16 but have now confirmed to be 15, had stopped.

He was recovered from the lake at 10.42pm on Friday and was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His death is being treated as unexpected but not believed to be suspicious.

“His family are aware and continue to receive support,” police said.
