A man in his 20s has been arrested on suspicion of a double murder after two men were fatally stabbed in Manchester.
Police said they were called to Great Southern Street in the Moss Side area of the city at about 5am on Sunday, responding to reports of two people being stabbed.
Two men were treated at the scene for their injuries and “despite the best efforts of first responders” were pronounced dead, Greater Manchester police said.
Detectives said they were treating it as an isolated incident with no threat to the wider public. No one else is being sought. No further details about the victims have been released and the arrested man, 23, remained in custody for questioning, police said.
There was a heavy emergency service presence in the area on Sunday with the force asking the public to avoid the area if possible.
Ch Supt Dave Meeney of Greater Manchester police said he understood the “shockwaves” the incident would have caused in the local community and across Greater Manchester. He said a number of local neighbourhood officers would conduct visible patrols in the area to help reassure people.
Anyone with knowledge of the incident has been encouraged to contact police on 101 quoting 553 of 17/11/24.
