A man has been charged with murder after a woman was found fatally stabbed at a house in Redditch, Worcestershire.
Cheryl McKenna, 44, was discovered by police officers at a property in Other Road, near Redditch town centre, at about 9.30am on Monday.
Two ambulances and the Midlands air ambulance were dispatched to the address but McKenna was pronounced dead at the scene.
A spokesperson for West Midlands ambulance service said: “On arrival crews found a woman in a critical condition and they immediately began administering advanced life support.
“Sadly, despite their best efforts it became apparent nothing could be done to save the woman and she was confirmed dead at the scene.”
Chris Hemming, 46, of Other Road in Redditch, was charged with her murder and was due to appear at Worcester crown court on Thursday.
In a statement, McKenna’s family said: “Cheryl was a huge and integral part of our family and will be missed terribly as a mother, daughter, sister and aunt.”
On Monday, Chris Bloore, the MP for Redditch, said his “thoughts are with the family and friends impacted by this tragic event”.
He added: “The police have informed me there is no further risk to the wider public. There will be an increased police presence in the area as inquiries continue.”
DCI Gareth Lougher from West Mercia police said: “Officers and paramedics were promptly on scene. However, it became clear the woman’s injuries were not survivable and she sadly died at the scene.
“I would like to reassure the local community we believe there to be no wider risk to the public.”
One resident of the street told BirminghamLive it was “shocking and sad” news: “It’s devastating it’s on your doorstep.”
